A cheeky irreverent wine range that created immediate connection with wine consumers globally.
Marlborough Valley wines approached us to name and brand a new range of wines, building on the global reputation that has become synonymous with the Marlborough Region. They wanted a non-pompous approachable brand that would appeal to the non aficionado wine drinker.
With any region and varietal, there are so many environmental conditions that define the quality of the grape harvested. A wine however, is not just about grapes, it is as much about the character of the people in the process, the cultivators, the wine makers.
What is noticeable about any NZ Marlburian, not just the winemakers and the growers, but almost everyone, they take wine seriously but not themselves. It was in blending the environmental factors and the eccentric character of the people, that we arrived at the solution of ‘Marlborough Sun’. This took shape as the fictitious newspaper with a cheeky cover story of an unusual phenomenon sweeping the region. Each varietal featured a new sighting as the cover story.
The ‘Marlborough Sun’ newspaper label formed a solid and flexible platform that would allow for further range extensions and adaption for the following vintages.
Marlborough Sun delivered what Marlborough Valley Wines were looking for, the range was welcomed across Europe and the rest of the world. Seemingly everyone, no matter the country, loves a nudie run.
